This week's Signals & Noise is live, and there is a deadline attached.

Until June 30, you can get four weeks of Signals & Noise Premium completely free. That includes next week's live coaching call with Steve, Tom and Jacob, the full weekly edition, the members video, and the TMM Learning Hub. Use code SN4WF at checkout. Cancel anytime.

Now to this week.

In finance theory, volatility is treated as risk. Strip it back and you find something more honest: risk is an emotion, not a number. Advisers assess your risk by your age and tell you to ignore the ups and downs because compounding is king. At TMM we focus on not losing money, for one simple reason. It sucks. So think of risk as your future unhappiness, and the next time you are talking yourself out of rebalancing, sit with the miserable thoughts for fifteen minutes and ask "would it really suck if I lost money here?"

In this week's free edition you get the opener, the risk-as-emotion framework, and this week's podcast.

Premium members also received our full "one to watch" stock breakdown, where we take a single large-cap energy company and run it through the complete TMM checklist, market cap, dividend, earnings yield, P/E, book value, debt, media sentiment and price action, line by line. It is the clearest example yet of exactly how we assess an individual stock. Plus the de-globalisation of capital, the One Nation lightning rod, the home loan enquiries chart, Sydney as the property lead indicator, and the CAPE at 41.

Reminder: the four-weeks-free offer ends June 30, and next week's coaching call is included. There is no better week to join.

While you are here, take ten minutes to find out what kind of investor you are with our free Enneagram-based assessment. No subscription required.

The tax myth that costs investors money | Signals & Noise, June 19
Access Newsletter  This week's Signals & Noise is live. With the recent tax changes, it is worth looking past the speculation and the bias to see what the impacts really are. The idea that investment simply stops because of tax is almost certainly wrong. Imagine a market where buyers exist but, according to the doomsayers, nobody will invest because of those dreaded taxes. There is always one...
The oil clock is ticking | Signals and Noise, June 12
Access Newsletter  This week's Signals & Noise is live. One of the more vexing issues right now is the outlook for oil. Inventories are falling, and at some point we arrive at a severe shortage. That point is expected to be around July or August. From there, demand destruction, and most likely recession, as demand for products falls and unemployment starts rising. Then what? We think governme...
Signals and Noise
Week ending June 5th 2026 Access Newsletter  This week's Signals & Noise is live. Steve dug up an old article this week. The headline read "Wall Street's Outlook for 2000," published by CBS MarketWatch on December 31, 1999. The opening line: "It's not easy to find a good debate brewing among market strategists on where stocks are headed next year. It's tough to find the pessimists: nary a bear ...
